Argon Mechatronics Welcomes Jesús Mantas to Advisory Board

Former IBM consulting leader, AI advisor, investor, and public-company board member joins Argon at a defining moment as the company scales precision robotics for manufacturing.

AUSTIN, Texas, July 27, 2026: Argon Mechatronics, the Austin-based robotics and physical-AI company building precision automated systems for manufacturing, announced today that Jesús Mantas, an investor in Argon, has joined its Advisory Board.

Mantas is a senior advisor, investor, and board member with decades of experience across artificial intelligence, enterprise transformation, technology services, corporate governance, and global operations. He retired in 2025 after a 23-year career at IBM, where he led a $10B business unit and held senior leadership roles, including Head of IBM Consulting Strategy, Offerings, and Corporate Development; General Manager of IBM Global Business Process Outsourcing; and President of IBM Consulting in Latin America.

His appointment comes as Argon moves from product development into production scale-up, bringing precision robotics to environments that require repeatable, reliable, engineering-grade work, from manufacturing floors to pharmaceutical and lab settings. Argon 01 is the first humanoid built for precision and automation, combining twin SCARA arms, an omnidirectional mobile base, modular tool use, built-in vision, and native G-Code compatibility.

For Argon, Mantas brings a rare combination of enterprise technology leadership, AI governance experience, public-company board perspective, and global transformation expertise. His background helping organizations adopt advanced technology and navigate operational change will be valuable as Argon expands its manufacturing pipeline, builds enterprise partnerships, and works with customers deploying physical-AI systems in real operating environments.

Mantas currently serves as Chair of the Compensation and Management Development Committee on the Board of Biogen Inc. (NASDAQ: BIIB) and serves on the Innovation, Audit, and Compensation committees of the Board of International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (NYSE: IFF). He also serves on the Boards of NeuroFab and DVLP Medicines and is a Trustee of the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation. In addition, he serves on the Board of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), is Vice Chair of HITEC, and is a Senior Advisor to organizations including the NASDAQ Center for Board Excellence, IE University New York College, BetterUp, and Quantum Metric.

“We’re delighted to welcome Jesús to Argon as we enter our next phase of growth and commercial expansion. He brings deep experience across enterprise technology, manufacturing transformation, artificial intelligence, governance and global business execution, and his appointment strengthens the advisory bench we’re building around the company. As physical AI moves from demos to deployment, Argon is focused on building robots that deliver measurable output in real operating environments.”

– Zaib Husain, Founder & Board Chair, Argon Mechatronics

"We're entering a defining period for physical AI, where long-term success will be determined not by demonstrations, but by the ability to deliver measurable value in production environments. Argon has assembled the technology, ambition, and leadership to compete in this emerging market, and I'm excited to work alongside the team as they scale the business and bring intelligent robotics to customers around the world."

– Jesús Mantas, Board Advisor, Argon Mechatronics

Mantas’ career in artificial intelligence began in 1992 with neural networks applied to speech recognition. He later launched one of the world’s first AI practices at scale while at IBM and was a member of the inaugural World Economic Forum Global AI Council. He holds degrees in Telecommunications and Business Administration from Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, was an adjunct professor at the University of California, Irvine Graduate School of Management, and served as an officer in the Air Force of Spain.
